The page refers to George STEVENS and questions whether he died in Gallipoli or the Somme. The man in question was my Grandmothers first husband, whose name was REGINALD GEORGE STEVENS, Private 10226 of the 5th Btn Dorset Regiment, who in fact died on 17th September 1916, in action in the Somme. He was born in Chilcombe and lived with his family in both Bredy Farm and Higher Sturthill Farm before marrying my Grandmother in 1911. Like many soldiers he has no known grave and is commemorated on Pier 7, Face B of the Thiepval Memorial near Albert, in France. He was awarded the 1914-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. For information he is also commemorated on the War Memorial in St Martin's Church Shipton Gorge.
