NEW WINDOW NOTICES We are really going to try and stop the activities of doorstep salespeople and possible distraction burglars, and we are going to this as follows- 1) We are going to get a supply of red window notices that are not sticky but hold to the window - like a road tax licence-by 'vacuum' saying "No Doorstep Traders. Don't ring. Don't knock" These will replace the old blue cards. Hot off the press. Later this year there is to be the appointment of people called something along the lines of 'Community Safety Officers' They are part of the police, and salaried, but do not have powers of arrest-other than citizen's arrest. Their job is to be seen and known in the neighbourhood...to do very much what the 'Bobby' of yester-year did - being a friendly presence, close ear to the ground, helping to resolve local difficulties and with the ability to call in the police where needed. The provisional idea is that there would be one with a patch covering Burton and perhaps a couple of smaller villages around here.
