Frank Simpson (Newcastle) was a champion Ballroom dancer. Sadly, he lost both of his legs when he trod on a landmine trying to help another soldier who had been wounded. He stayed with the Guppys while recuperating & learning to walk again with his "new" legs. He had a wonderful sense of humour - when taking him a cup of tea in bed one morning, Janet Guppy found him holding up one of his wooden legs complete with its shoe, polishing merrily. He said "I never thought that I would ever be sitting up in bed polishing my shows already on my feet".
