Remoteness and poor communications meant serious problems for many farmers in crises such as house fires. These three photos show just how disastrous it was for Cogden Farm in 1914.

17th June 1914, the terrible day of the fire at Cogden Farm.
The contents were saved and and are piled on the lawn,
but the water pressure was nil.
