Bridport & District U3A
Bridport & District U3A, which includes Burton Bradstock and surrounding villages, has enrolled more than 80 members and set up 15 study groups since its launch in mid January.
The groups are: Architecture and art history; book club; bird watching; bridge; English literature and theatre visits; fossil hunting; French conversation; advanced French conversation; guitar; homeopathy for beginners; the world of Jane Austen; landscape archaeology; meditation; musical appreciation; and nutrition for optimum health.
U3A, which stands for the University of the Third Age, is a self-help organisation for people no longer in full time employment, providing educational, creative and leisure opportunities for its members. With no qualifications needed and no exams to be passed, the U3A approach is ‘learning for pleasure’.
Groups’ co-ordinator Lesley Archibald said: “We're delighted at the excellent take-up and confident that lots more groups will form as we grow. Local U3As draw upon the skills and experience of their own members to organise study groups. They are a chance to meet people with similar interests, develop new skills and make new friends.”
For further information on study groups, contact Lesley Archibald on 01308 456079. For information on how to join U3A, call Diana Coleridge on 01308 424431. Another good way to find out more is to attend the monthly meetings which take place on fourth Tuesday of every month at the Christian Fellowship Hall, Bridport. There will be a talk entitled ‘What would we like old buildings to look like” by Professor Patric Morrissey at the March meeting.
